Last Call: Workflow Rules and Process Builder

It feels like only yesterday that Dreamforce was all about “Flow”. And although Salesforce mentioned the sunset of Workflow Rules and Process Builder at the time, the dates all felt so far in the future that it was hard to even fathom. That was in 2021.

And then, as always seems to happen, in the blink of an eye it was the Winter ‘23 release and the ability to create new Workflow Rules was gone.

And now, it’s 2025, and in a few months Workflow Rules and Process Builder will get their final Release Note mention forever — the end of their support.

On December 31, 2025 — the very last day of this year (and when you’ll probably be out of the office) — Salesforce will stop supporting Workflow Rules and Process Builder.

Salesforce recommends you migrate your automation to Flow Builder by that time. But don’t forget to take a look at what your automations are actually doing as well! If it’s been awhile, you may find that subsequent Salesforce releases have provided functionality you had previously had to “build” from scratch, there may be AppExchange apps that offer the entire process you’d built from a series of automations, etc… It may be a perfect chance for Spring—er, Summer cleaning!

How to check if you’re still using Workflow Rules or Process Builder

Navigate to Setup

Setup Navigation

Go to Process Automation

Process Automation Menu

Then select Workflow Rules or Process Builder and sort the column for “Active”

And then get to work!

What happens if you don’t?

According to Salesforce, Workflow Rules and Process Builder might continue to work, but customer support won’t be available and if they don’t work… you’re outta luck.

So why risk it? Get in there, get updating, and then you’ll be able to rest easy for another 4–5 years until the next automation overhaul comes our way! Just kidding.

Probably.

Until then, keep working hard, smart, and happy. And we’ll see you in the cloud!
