Salesforce x ChatGPT

As we head into the new year and wind down a 2025 that marked Salesforce’s first full-year all-in on artificial intelligence, there’s one more bit of big-name AI news ahead of the NYE celebrations.
Salesforce announced an app, Agentforce Sales, in ChatGPT that claims to integrate the two platforms and automate sales efforts.
Aimed at tackling what Salesforce calls the “Toggle Tax” — the time wasted clicking back and forth between tabs, copying and pasting, and context switching — this app allows Sales reps and BDRs to access, act on, and automate with org data without leaving the ChatGPT interface.
What’s especially interesting here is what it implies: at least according to Salesforce, there’s a meaningful segment of existing customers whose users are already operating — or prefer to operate — out of ChatGPT rather than Salesforce proper.
Functionally, the app lets users ask for details on records, collections of leads, and more. It surfaces Salesforce data directly in the chat and claims to facilitate automation as well. Salesforce positions it this way:
Sales reps can skip manually emailing cold leads and instead say,
“Just tell ChatGPT: ‘@Agentforce Sales, assign the other 4 leads to my Engagement Agent.’ It’s done. The Agentforce Sales app takes over the nurturing while you focus on the big fish.”
Exactly what “taking over” means in practice is still a bit unclear at this point.
The big question — any time we talk about connecting our data to, well, anything — is security.
So, is it safe to connect your org data to ChatGPT?
According to Salesforce, yes. They claim the Agentforce Trust Layer acts as a secure, two-way data exchange, allowing users to act on their data effectively while that data remains theirs alone.
At a minimum, this is almost certainly more secure than sales reps copying and pasting customer data into external tools.
And the biggest question of all: does it work?
The honest answer is… we don’t know yet.
I tried installing the app in ChatGPT and connecting it to either a Sandbox or my Agentforce org. I was able to get through the install flow, but no matter which org I was signed into beforehand, it always attempted to connect to production. There was no option to use a custom URL or “try another way” to log into a different org.
The end result was an error that gets thrown every single time I click install. There’s also no support contact listed on the ChatGPT app itself, and I don’t feel like opening a support ticket right before the holidays.
It can wait until the new year.
But if you’ve already gotten it up and running, I’d love to hear what you think.
Until next time, keep working hard, smart, and happy. And we’ll see you in the cloud.
